Our life since from our birth and till now, we are going through a gradual process of evolution. One thing what we have been taught from our birth is to learn about new things. The best way to learn about new things is to constantly search for them and upon finding them properly go through them. So, at this phase a word known as research came to my mind which clearly states re- search. Searching once again from the basics so the frequently asked questions could be answered. It’s a detailed process with lot of reading thing and constantly remaining in touch with the topic. Basically research is a tool for finding variety of answers.
This was my archaic concept about the research. After being the part of this course I managed to somehow develop my line of action. What’s the purpose of research? It’s not about finding answers but it’s about creating answers. There are many things in our society to look upon but before indicating certain flaw we should first know the purpose behind it. In this regards, this course played a magnificent role in developing a sense of purpose by letting us engage in different activities. Purpose of any certain research is to develop a central research question while your whole research project would surround around it by creating answers for it.

REVERSE OUTLINE: The bigger the city is, bigger the problems are and garbage disposal is one of the severe problem we are dealing with. Due to burning of garbage air pollution is on the nosedive. Karachi have been rated among 5 most polluted cities of the world and asthma being one of the most commonly found disease. All previous lacking, point out towards disowning of Karachi. So now every single citizen must play its vital role. Justice denied anywhere is threat to justice everywhere. Things must be kept simple and everything should be done from gross route level. By interviewing, surveying, conducting seminars, writing letters to concerned authorities and introducing plantation programs may help in this cause.
The reverse outline quite diligently summarize my proposal so when by going through my reverse outline I can easily relate to my proposal which I drafted. During this I analyzed my whole proposal. There were many frequently used repeated lines and many such phrases which weren’t important at all so those were omitted. Therefore, making the proposal more alluring. What do you foresee being the most challenging aspect of the project proposal and why? Developing a perfect CRQ which meets all the requirement was probably the trickiest part and explaining whether the CRQ is kairotic was the toughest part. As we got to convince the audience that it’s high time that this problem should be raised. With passing time the problem has got the better of all. It’s not far that if this plea not negotiated the city would face some serious waves of disease, plague etc. Justice denied anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Nearly 80% of the 9,000 premature deaths caused each year in Pakistan by high PM2.5 concentrations are in Karachi.
What do you foresee being the most challenging aspect of the larger project, and why? With greater power comes greater responsibility and same goes for a project that with bigger project comes greater responsibility. The greater responsibility comes in the form of striving greater as you got to cover every single dimension with precision and delicacy. You need to view and review the similar factor from different aspects. It’s more time consuming as the ground for research become more wide spread and it’s impossible to cover each and every aspect. How can you - in practical terms - meet the challenges you describe above? CRQ was developed due to my intrigue nature towards this topic while by going through different statistical data, data bases, and interviews of focal persons, interviews of general public and by going through different articles I managed to compile some valuable data, so a sense of urgency should be developed over this scenario as this is the appropriate time to address this issue. While to carry out a research project on such a big magnitude one need to be focused first of all, secondly be creative and witty in approach while last but not the least work within the limited resources. Time is the key factor as time is money so time utilization play a great role in conducting a successful research. My CRQ: How can proper disposal and management of solid waste have any impact on environmental degradation and health related issues in Karachi?
Karachi is a city with an approximated population of 1.7 million while solid waste management authorities haven’t been able to serve justice to any of them all. The discourse community which I want to address is humongous but the point is their plea remains the same. It was asked then and still ask now that when the inhabitants of Karachi would be able to breath in fresh air. While billion of rupees have been spent in past with no significant result is the evidence for failure of the concerned authorities. Whenever a problem keeps on tingling and making its way more and more, the best resolve is to sit down and look back on your past research while conduct some new one too. We can go once again from crash but this time with a more organized strategy with a disciplined methodology to cite on. There are many NGOs operating with different objectives but a healthy environment leads to a healthy society with more fresh minds and a more disciplined approach most of the issues of our society can be resolved. If this message could be conveyed to different NGOs then possibly they’ll also contribute to this cause. The general public quite well comprehend the intensity of this situation so if an appropriate way is designed then it could also be implemented. While the third and most influential discourse community is our concerned authorities which need to be address now. The SOP for conducting inquiry of these 3 discourse communities will always remain different. As they are working on different principles with a difference in linguistic feature. The general public need a wakeup call in form of conducting some seminars throughout the city with some questionnaires distributed about importance of health. While distributing of pamphlets over Karachi’s degrading environmental condition would enhance the sense of duty among our public. NGOs need to be convince that this issue should be the main priority while concerned authorities would be force to realize their sense of duty and their devil may care attitude. As said earlier, for different discourse communities a different approach will be adopted for e.g. General public needs different seminars and such written material will inspire them to stand up for their basic right. While the NGOs needs to devise some workshops and for that necessary written material would be provided to implement on. Karachi, widely known as the city of lights and it’s all due to the electrifying people of this city who never gave up whatever the circumstances might be. The solution to every single problem lies within the gross root level. The general public of this city are well aware of their issues but it’s surprising that they don’t yet know the answers to it.
Solid waste management is one of the ignored and not to talk about like issues as it can doubt the credibility of those institutes which are responsible for garbage disposal while it also show the lack of interest shown by government to compensate this issue. All the authorities have failed miserably to negotiate this growing pollution rate due to improper garbage disposal. SSWMB (Sindh solid waste management board) exclusively looks after solid waste management with annual budget of more than 500 million dollar but we are yet to see any remarkable improvement. Three new solid waste management projects have been announced in the Sindh budget 2017-18 for Karachi, Hyderabad and Shaheed Benazirabad, with an estimated cost of Rs2.20 billion. However, no solid waste management scheme from last year has seen the light of the day. (Azam, 2017) When billions of dollars have been spent but on the same hand some easily applicable measures with a minimal budget could be the answer than why not opt for it. General public are the major culprits for this devastating situation of the city and only they can change their own fate but a statistical survey would be done that how many inhabitants of the city are well aware of their situation. Other surveys like how many % of people know the harm of using polythene. Major surveys like how many % of people are willing to play their role to ameliorate the scenario would be fruitful too. So, basically an alliance should be created between government, concerned authorities, NGOs and general public so together they can put up a fight against this worsening condition. With each passing day Karachi is moving towards a void. Karachi is the corporate sector of Pakistan with a coastal line and [1]Karachi’s water is consider the worst as all the industrial waste is discharged into sea. The water is overwhelmed by the quantity of lead in water so by taking sea food high risk of diseases is involved. According to FAO and USAID fact-sheets, floods have caused death of 1,800 human beings, 1.2 million animals, and six million poultry and have destroyed two million houses. Houses in rural areas store, among others, the pesticides. All these deaths are decaying in river water, causing pollution. (newspaper, 2010) In Karachi, there is no proper way of disposing of garbage to landfill sites on a regular basis as heaps of garbage can be seen everywhere. It lacks enough trees which can absorb carbon dioxide. The president of UNAP Moohi during the meeting with Mayor Karachi referred to a recent international research on environmental pollution said this study provided sufficient evidence that Karachi is one of the severely affected cities of the world by the climate change whereas the air pollution levels are also found alarmingly high in most parts of the city. Now it’s high time that we should lift our spirits up and quit lip service. “Go Green” movement of planting trees should be inaugurated and different seminars should be held in industrial areas of the city so they can be enlighten with the proper disposal of solid wastes. Many more initiatives could be also adopted. Works CitedAzam, O. (2017). Govt announces three new waste management projects in Sindh. Sindh: The express Tribune. newspaper, T. (2010).
